President Barack Obama nominated Amit Priyavadan Mehta to the United States District Court for the District of Columbia on July 31, 2014, to the seat vacated by Ellen Segal Huvelle. Congress.gov lists the nomination as PN1942, 113th Congress. The Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on September 17, 2014, and reported the nomination on November 20, 2014.

On December 16, 2014, the Senate confirmed him by voice vote. The Senate floor activity for that day records: cloture motion withdrawn by unanimous consent; confirmed by the Senate by voice vote. There is no recorded yea–nay tally on this confirmation. A voice vote is a confirmation. It is not a later-case finding.

The Federal Judicial Center states the commission issued December 19, 2014. The District of Columbia court biography says he was appointed December 22, 2014. Both dates are printed. They are not the same day. See the commission-date post.
